Jake's First Holy Communion

Mass

Sunday, August 22nd, was the day for Jake to receive his first Eucharist. This was at Holy Family Parish, Menai.

Boys and girls lined up waiting to enter church

The first Communicants waiting outside the church at Menai. They were the last to enter after the rest of the congregation had been seated.

Family in church at the end of Mass

Father Phil requested there be no photography during Mass. This is quite reasonable, as it tends to turn the event into a circus. So, this photo was taken at the end of Mass. Yvonne, Kelly with Lily (who was very good), Peter, Cooper, Michelle, Jake and Flynn.

Lunch

After Mass, we made our way down to the Thai Rim Nam Restaurant at Como.

Boy opening gift

Jake received a gift to commemorate the occasion.

Little girl drawing on table

The restaurant uses paper "table cloths", and happily supplies pens for the little ones to draw with. Here, Lily is happily drawing away on the table, under Peter's watchful eye. Later on, Peter showed Lily how to draw her hand on the table - hand down, and run pen/pencil around the edge. She got the idea pretty quickly and was soon drawing many hands.

Little girl with blond hair and white coat

Lily in deep concentration while drawing on the table cloth.

Mother and son apparently reading

Michelle and Jake looking/reading through Jake's gift.

Three women sitting at the table

Yvonne, Di and Bev at the table in the glorious winter sunshine. Di and Bev have been close family friends for a very long time, and participate in many events. They were even at my birthday party on Saturday night for a short time, until Di's daughter went into labour.

Boys amongst cars in car park

Flynn and Cooper decided to escape from the table to explore a bit.

The trusty photographer in front of the camera for a change, with backup from the (some time) other photographers, Di and Bev.

Two boys and their mum

The family: Flynn, Jake and Michelle Two boys and their mum

Boy with lolly in mouth

Flynn, absorbing some scene of interest, with a lolly in his mouth.

Mother and son being photographed

Mother and son, and some paparazzi. Boy and his mother

Boy behind chocolate cake with candles

We almost left without having the cake delivered! That would have been a terrible waste of cake. And chocolate cake at that.

Cake with words

The cake being lit.
