Jack and Shasta spent 10 days or so here after arranging a "loan" of a Ducati motorcycle. Jake writes articles for US motorcycle publications, so there is legitimacy to this action! To introduce them and help adjust to Australian roads, I gave them an escorted ride for the day. But I also needed an escape too, and this was a good excuse!
Ride was from Justin and Gita's in Camden to Liverpool, along the Heathcote Road to Waterfall, through National Park to Stanwell Tops. Which, of course, is where this photo was taken!
Just missed Shasta, the photographer, capturing the bikes parked here. But that's her walking off to the right.
From Stanwell Tops we headed down the old highway, thence through Wollongong to Albion Park then up Macquarie Pass. At the top it was time for lunch, at the very conveniently positioned Robertson Pie Shop.
After a filling lunch, the plan was to head to Moss Vale and home.
Then the sign to Fitzroy Falls appeared, and that seemed like a good diversion. I haven't been there since I was a child, and Jack and Shasta had never been there! This is the view looking down into Kangaroo Valley; the falls are off to the left.
Fitzroy Falls. It wasn't clear there would be any water at all, given the dry conditions of the last 10 years. But, there was water! Not quite Niagra, but what it looses in volume, it gains in height!
From here we headed back to Moss Vale and onto the Hume Freeway to about Picton, where we headed off to Camden. Margaret (my GPS) guided us to Justin's front door. I waited until my charges were inside, then headed home - mostly against peak hour traffic.
Overall an excellent day.
