Back over the lake and follow the GPS instructions to Black Mountain.
Telstra Tower, atop Black Mountain. This is the TV transmitter
site for Canberra, as well as a major telecommunications hub,
judging by the number of microwave dishes on the side.
There is a viewing platform on the top row of windows in the structure
above the microwave dishes. There's an outdoor viewing area above
that, and that's where the following photos were taken.
The following photos are roughly left to right as seen from the tower.
Fenner Hall (the darker towers behind the white building on the left) and the Canberra Rex Hotel, the slightly pink coloured building to the right of Fenner Hall.
Mount Ainslie, with the northern edge of Canberra's CBD just sneaking in on the right. Lake Burley Griffin is to the right.
Looking over Lake Burley Griffin, with the National Museum of Australia on the pensinula in the foreground, and the old Parliament House on the right. Note that the Captain Cook Fountain is now turned off; it would be a little to the left of the bridge in the foreground.
A closer view of the National Museum of Australia and old Parliament House.
Red Hill is about the middle of this image. Specifically the little white blob in the middle is the restaurant (which was closed) atop Red Hill.
The business end of Lake Burley Griffin - the dam wall which holds the lake in! The Governor General's residence, Yarralumla, is located on the far shore.
You can see the Governor General's property - it's green! And a closer view of Yarralumla.
