After such a pleasant experience, it was time to hop into the cars and head to Palm Cove, which is between Cairns and Port Douglas. It's a nice beachfront commmunity, with the major "industry" being tourism.

This is taken from the kitchen; the balcony has a view over a couple of
swimming pools.
A view from their balcony, showing the two pools - the one on the left has
a sandy beach
and a bar in the pool! While others went for a swim, I snoozed under an
umbrella, as my scalp was sunburnt from our day on the reef.
No doubt that tropical vegetation is lush, and grows vigorously,
as seen here (I think it's bougainvillea). Note one other consequence
of being in the tropics (16 degrees south, roughly): the satellite dish
is pointing very high in the sky.
Across the street from the resort is the Coral Sea, which contains a pair
of islands. One is Double Island (it has 2 peaks on it) and the other is
this one, Scout Island. The reason for that name is
obvious
in this close up - it looks like a scout leader's hat.
Note the swimmers in the stinger net (the blue band).
The drive back to Port Douglas takes us along the main street/beach road
of Port Douglas, seen here out the car's windscreen.
