Kelly's wedding was scheduled for Saturday, November 19 at Port Douglas, in far north Queensland. Planned as a quiet wedding, nonetheless 70 or more of Kelly's closest friends made the trek.
We arrived at the Qantas terminal at Sydney Airport with plenty
of time to spare, so some needed to eat. Around the table,
from the left, is Peter, Jake, Glenn (standing, the groom),
Tynan (Glenn's son), Flynn and Cameron
The flight to Cairns (and then bus to Port Douglas) is inland, as
Cairns is (I think) a little west of direct north from Sydney. So it was only
as we neared Townsville that the coast came into view. This
area is just a little way south of Cairns, showing coast and
a couple of islands (and one of the plan's engines at the very bottom).
The hills in the bottom of the picture are just south of Cairns.
It was nice to see some tropical scenery like this - especially
the island with a beach just off the coast.
And also some nice sandy beaches along the coast line. Ah, this
is looking good! Especially as we booked in for 10 days at Port
Douglas. It was particularly nice for me, coming from mid Autumn
in the northern hemisphere.
Part of downtown Cairns. I was up here (with mum and dad during
school holidays) in 1965. At that stage, there were no high rise
buildings in Cairns; indeed the whole tourist industry was just
beginning, and so it was very casual. Things have changed a great
deal, with five star hotels and resorts now around the area.
