Finally, on December 21st, my possessions from Seattle arrived, were cleared through Customs and were delivered to my temporary home.
Not exactly the container in which they departed! I'm not sure when/where/why the boxes were removed from the shipping container and placed inside these two wooden containers. Seems like unnecessary work to me, but perhaps Customs wants to look at all the boxes anyway. This view is looking roughly North West.
The kitchen - with some stuff unpacked and placed in the cupboards. I was surprised to find some things had been packed - such as waxed paper, cling wrap etc. But I told the packers in Seattle to pack most things, so they came too.
The living room, and most of my furniture which did NOT come from Seattle! Specifically the sofa, coffee table and lamp. The boxes did, though! Those boxes are now mostly packed under the stairs, as I don't have any bookcases, and it seemed silly to unpack them, only to have to pack and unpack again when I have a more permanent living arrangement.
The third bedroom (upstairs), which served as a store room for many months, until somebody came to stay, and I needed a bed. There's now an air bed sitting in the middle of the room - it's roughly regular bed height and king size, but is very light; it still feels strange lifting the bed with a few fingers!
The nursery, now an office/computer room. The only item I have found which did not quite survive the trip is the printer on the right hand side of the image - the page fades away on the left side. It has now been replaced; probably a bent frame, or some such problem. I'll look at it one of these days when I have some time.
Stuff in the master bedroom. The lamp is a local purchase. Fortunately my nieces and husbands gave me a bed side table for Christmas, so the lamp is no longer on the floor!
The tall boxes have clothes in them (what a surprise!) but still on coat hangers! Quite a nifty arrangement - there's a metal bar across the top of the carboard box, and the hangers are placed on there. Speeds up packing and unpacking.
Well, the next few days were pretty busy, getting the house in a state fit to live in. Which I did, as Peter and Yvonne were leaving Sydney on Boxing Day, so it was a case of wanting to move in then. Which was accomplished.
It's still not "home", but close enough to let me get on with life.
