Vasona Dam and Reservoir was completed in 1935 and is one of six original reservoirs. It is a small storage which is also a recreational area.
The dam wall comes in on the far right of this image.
The downstream side of the wall. It's obviously not very big, although there is quite a decent flow of water down the creek. There is a walking trail along the creek.
The ducks (top left) taking advantage of this man made structure to look for food.
Jeff and I then wandered down the trail beside the creek, enjoying the peace and quiet as we went, and solving the world's problems. The creek has a reasonable flow in it for late summer.
There's a soccer ball trapped in the turbulence at the weir. The flow of water over the wall was sucking the ball back towards the wall, so it would probably stay there as long as there is a good water flow.
The creek eventually runs into some urban areas, so that seemed like a good point to reverse course and head back.
A view from the dam wall, looking towards the park area. It's hard to believe there's a major road on the other side of the trees!
Looking over the waters to the major recreational area surrounding the reservoir. The mountains in the distance are the southern end of the Santa Cruz Range.
And so it was time to head off to dinner - my shout tonight, and it was a nice Japanese restaurant we had been to before. All in all, a very successful and enjoyable day.
