Around Las Vegas

Today's agenda was to explore some of Las Vegas before heading back to California to San Luis Obispo.

The Brothers Harris in Las Vegas. This is a curious scene, which I have only just appreciated. This must be the "Italy Through The Centuries" section of Las Vegas. The building on the left, and the "lake" and "village" on its shore are part of "The Bellagio", while the building on the right is part of "Caesar's Palace". Little did I know at the time that within a few weeks I would be in the real Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy.

Peter and Yvonne in front of Bellagio. Just the modern Italy (well, if any part of Italy can be considered "modern") in this shot.

Ah, the Bellagio's Lake is being "repaired". Actually it's the fountain being worked upon. It is quite a spectacular fountain, which is accompanied by a musical theme. Detailed view.

The Eiffel Tower Paris meets Middle East
Definitely in the (Old) Europe section of Las Vegas - the Eiffel Tower is across the street from Bellagio. Although this one is only half the height of the original. That size limit was dictated by the Federal Aviation Administration, as Las Vegas Airport is not far away. And then the Aladdin is next door! The balloon I presume is a reference to the Montgolfier Brothers, who were the first to fly in a hot air balloon.

The "Paris, Las Vegas" Casino also has an "Arc de Triomph"! Though the traffic light structure and types of car give it away.

We stayed in The Aladdin, which has been sold, and it seems is likely to have it's theme changed, though the building has an obvious Middle East theme, as does the room decor.

Being Las Vegas, the casino is gigantic, and there's extensive shopping facilities, part of which is shown here, and again it's a very Middle East style theme. The blurs in the foreground are people walking through - this was a long exposure.

Another section of the shopping arcade Peter and Yvonne in the rainstorm area
Yes, that is correct - there is a regular storm in this area. Thunder, lightning (well, simulated) and rain. From shower heads, which are difficult to see in the ceiling.
