The Australian Coat of Arms, very nicely carved and located above the President's Chair.

Executive Offices

The executive offices were also located in the building. The Prime Minister's offices on the left (facing the front), while the President of the Senate's offices were located on the right hand side, both in additions to the original building when it proved too small.

Peter Fyfe in the Cabinet Room, Old Parliament House

Peter in The Cabinet Room. We both had fun attempting to name the people in the photograph from a 1970's meeting in the room. Peter's looking at it in the photo, which I suspect is why he knew more of them!

Prime Minister's Office, Old Parliament House

The Prime Minister's Office, "left" as it was in 1988 when all members moved to the new building.

The Prime Minister's desk. Not exactly "over the top"!

After this tour, Peter drove into town to collect his mother from the bus station. We then headed back home to collect Callum and head off to lunch at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, a building designed by John Smith Murdoch, the first Commonwealth Government Archtitect, who designed the old Parliament House.

After a very nice lunch it was time for me to hit the road back to Sydney.
