Continuing our walk along the streets of Berrima brings us to the Berrima Goal. The goal has a long and varied history, which includes being used to hold German prisoners during World War I. The prisoners were allowed a considerable amount of freedom, to the extent of daming the river, and building "holiday homes" around the lake and even boats for recreation!
The front of the goal. The date at the top of the entry archway shows 1866 as the date of construction, although the goal is much older than that, with a hanging as early as 1842.
The Superintendent's House, just outside the wall (right of image).
Another nicely restored building in front of the goal, and facing onto the old Hume Highway (on the far side).
The Berrima Court House, no longer in use as a courtroom, but is now a museum.
