Back To Seattle

Saturday, April 24th was the time to return to Seattle. Since I had a "free" ticket (cashed in all those frequent flyer miles) the return journey was via Auckland to Los Angeles. Would not otherwise be my choice of route, but then I'd never been to New Zealand either.

Auckland Airport

Since cameras (well, electronic devices) are not allowed during landing, I have no photos of the approach to Auckland, even though I had a good view of "downtown" and suburbs. But once on the ground...

Crater Lake

After Auckland, there's not a lot to see. Until approaching Northern California, that is, when things become interesting.

Crater Lake is actually in southern Oregon. Originally it was a mountain, Mount Mazama, but a very large explosion removed it's top. The explosion was approximately 7,700 years ago, and is recorded in Native American legends. At 1,943 feet (592 metres) deep, it is the deepest lake in the United States, and seventh deepest in the world.

And so it was home and back to regular activities. The five weeks was really enjoyable, but other activities awaited...
