Sunset at Fort Bragg

June 16th

Time to head home. Also Father's Day, the significance of which I didn't realise until it was too late. It was a really nice day, and my plan was to ride from Monterey to Fort Bragg, using the coastal road, Highway 1, rather than US-101, the route I used on the way down.

Highway 1 branches off US-101 just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and follows the coast. Thus, it is both twisty and scenic! Alas, it's also a popular road for tourists and others visiting the towns along the way. Hence, there were a lot of Sunday (read incompetent) drivers on the sections closer to San Francisco. And few opportunities to pass. However, it is an enjoyable road, and I am glad I took it.

After a delightful dinner at the North Coast Brewpub, I rode back to the motel, and snapped some photos as the sun was setting. Since the motel was close to the water, the view was pretty good.

Grants Pass

Evening over Grants Pass, Oregon, from Holiday Inn Express

An not very impressive photo of Grant's Pass, Oregon. It was taken from the front of the motel. I'd had a longish day, and didn't feel much like looking for a better place to take a picture. And my room looked out onto a hillside with the freeway up the top!

The next day was along I-5 to home. Nothing exciting, apart from rain showers around Portland - the only time I needed the rain gear. From memory I reached home before 4PM, thus avoiding the worst of rush hour(s) traffic.
