Crossing the Strait of Juan de Fuca

The sailing time is about 90 minutes. As we neared the fog bank in the middle of the Strait, passengers were ordered back from the front of the ferry, and this area was then roped off. I presume this was to avoid excessive injury to passengers in the event of a collision. In that case, I think there are many other things I'd be worried about :-(
