Another Break In Ride

May 7th

Justin and I abandoned our breakin ride of May 5th, after we nearly drowned getting to Marysville. Tentatively, the following Tuesday was looking better, so Justin organised to have the afternoon off. And nice it was. We followed the earlier planned route, around the Skagit Valley, or at least the very lower part of it.

Deception Pass

Deception Pass, looking west

Deception Pass is quite an impressive sight, and it appears we timed it about right, as the tide was flowing out quite vigorously. This scene is looking west, towards the San Juan Islands.

Dinner at La Conner

Looking north on Swinomish Channel, La Conner, from restaurant

La Conner has a number of decent eating places, and being a Tuesday evening, after the Tulip Festival, we had no trouble finding a convenient parking place. And two bikes easily park in the space of one car. This restaurant has a deck out the back, and we chose to sit there for the duration. It was a little chillier than I had expected, but was still pleasant. This is a view of the Swinomish Channel, which makes Fidalgo Island (on the left) an island!

The bridge over Swinosh Channel, Ls Conner; looking south

One of the two bridges connecting Fidalgo Island to the mainland. Despite it's impressive structure, it's actually the minor bridge. The island is on the right.

A modern looking boat on Swinomish Channel, La Conner

A sharp looking fishing boat motoring past the restaurant. The Swinomish Indian Reservation is in the background.

Free Loaders

Free food, in La Conner. Don't know what type of bird this is.

I don't know what kind of bird this is - they are much larger than any seagull I have ever seen, and known to be a seagull, but are obviously closely related. These birds know only too well that there is free food in restaurants.

Shades of Alfred Hitchcock at La Conner Seafood Restaurant

This one was keeping watch from the roof.
