Sunset On Mt. Rainier

May 20th

It was a beautiful May evening, so I rode over to Magnusson Park, on the western shore of Lake Washington, almost opposite Kirkland, but a little further south. This park offers a magnificient view of Mt. Rainier - so time for sunset photos.

The mountain in its full glory, illuminated by the setting sun. This view is from just near the southern end of the parking lot.

The view from the southern end of the park, where I set up to capture the end of the day.

Notice the cloud over the top of the mountain. This is quite a common effect on such mountains. I believe this is a lenticular cloud. It's more obvious in the larger image.

Sailing home for the end of the day.

The sun has now retreated from the lower levels of the peak.

Just a lone sculler to enjoy the view of just the top of the peak still receiving the sun's rays.

The only colour left now is that of the scattering of sunlight in the atmosphere above the mountain.
