Our Lady of Lourdes was my home parish in Sydney. The church as built is not complete, as the project was running over budget when Monsignor Flannagan was appointed, about the time I was born.
This is the original plan. The wing leading to the lower right corner was not completed, and neither the dome nor tower were built. Homer Street runs along the lower left corner of the block.
The foundation stone was laid a few months after my birth!
The view from Homer Street, showing the truncated wing on the right. THe building on the very right of the image is the former convent, while the presbytery is behind the tree on the left.
The presbytery and courtyard.
Looking from the rear of the truncated wing, over the altar to the smaller chapel. The wooden panelling at the end hides the sound absorbing material used to deaden the ferocious echo resulting from concrete walls, as well as providing a "warm" atmosphere.
Looking from the same location as the above photo, but this time towards Homer Street, and the (recently) added stained glass window.
Looking in the other direction (away from Homer Street), with the statue of Our Lady nicely in the light.
A grotto and Stations of The Cross are located in the lower grounds.
