The first tree planted was the Cornus Kusa, or Korean Dogwood. The hydrangeas are also visible, as is the drip irrigation tubing. This particular dogwood grows to about 10 feet, or 3 metres.
The other tree is a Bloodgood Japanese Maple. This particular variety maintains a very deep red colour to its leaves all during the summer, providing a nice contrast with the tree in the street behind the fence, and the neighbouring plants. This is probably getting close to its full grown height, but it will spread out, as they tend to form up like an umbrella.
The lilac garden, fully populated. The lilac is now surrounded by azaleas, Gumpo White variety. You can see the last of the flowers on the nearest plant.
A general view of the back yard, as viewed from the east side of the house. The tree in the right hand corner is the Cypress transplanted from the front of the garage.
View looking west. showing the rock pile and the developing garden, as well as the plant store just near the dining room window. I kept plants there because they received some shade, and it was convenient to spray them with water from the drip irrigation.
Yet another view of the dogwood tree.
A close up view of the Bloodgood Maple. and also showing the Aucuba ("gold dust") shrubs which border the tree.
Finally the bark goes down, to add the finishing touches to the gardens on the eastern side.
And the back garden too.
And the garden on the west side.
The east side gardens, now complete.
The gardens on the west side, with the plant storage area now reduced to one plant (a pieris) and the Eleagnus plants (the yellow ones) in.
