These are the floor plans for both floors on my new home. The diagrams are not to scale, and should be treated as indicative. At least that's what the brochure says.
Note that both levels show the outline of the other floor, to let you see how the two pieces fit together. It's the dotted line.
The room labelled 'UTIL' is the laundry, and 'PWD' is a toilet, euphemistically labelled "Powder room".
Features include gas heating and hot water, plus a gas fire in the family room. There is also gas stove - no more problems cooking when the power goes off. And if the gas fire operates without electricity, then there will be heating available too.
The ceiling in the living room goes all the way to the roof - there are no rooms above that part of the house. I believe it is called a cathedral ceiling. Biggest disadvantage is painting it!
The garage holds three cars, and has 2 doors - a double door and a single door on the left side (viewed from the front - bottom of diagram).
The room labelled "WIC" is a closet - a walk in closet, to be precise. I expect Bedroom 2 will become my office, although that honour may go to the study downstairs.
The bathroom off the master bedroom contains a hot tub, or the strangest shaped bath tub I have ever seen! It also has a shower recess, and that I am looking forward to.
North is to the bottom of the screen.
The house is about a mile north of here, and slightly west. Alas, I think I will be getting a new phone number, as the telephone exchange boundary is somewhere near here, and the numbers up there start with a 4.
The house is 2660 square feet - 250 square metres. Expected closing date is December 19th, but the builder is believed to be about a week late, which puts it just after Christmas.
There is a deck or patio at the back, on the southern (read sunny) side of the house. This will probably encourage me to get a barbeque! The price includes landscaping the front, but the back is up to me. I would like a couple of not too tall growing, deciduous trees. They provide summer shade, but then let the sun in during the cooler times of the year.
There is now a tree in front of the house, adjacent to the road. Nothing quite like instant trees!
I specifically wanted a house with the back facing south. This means the sun will come in the windows of the family room, kitchen and dining room. At this time of the year, with falling temperatures, it is most enjoyable sitting in the sun inside and reading.
