KPLU held a special edition of Car Talk as a fundraiser. Click and Clack were at their best for a phone hook up, and we also had the fun of exploring the Petroleum Museum, which has a collection of memorabilia from years gone by.
With a couple of "friends" at the General Petroleum Museum, Seattle, 06 Feb 93. The museum is a former garage, and so has some of the smell, and of course real history, of such a place. The museum does not seem to have a web page, but I did find the following:-
General Petroleum Museum Corporation
The world's original gas station opened here in 1907. Prior to that date, gas was purchased and brought home in a can. The first floor exhibits the evolution of the gas pump through the years. The second floor is an immense area that holds a complete full-scale replica of an art-deco-era gas station. Also of interest is the wide assortment of kitchenware, toys, candles and other "freebies" offered by the petroleum companies in the past as an incentive to customers to fill up the tank. The museum, complete with the use of the promotional dinnerware, is a popular rental location for catered events!
I invited Andrew Bell and Mike Tricker along, but they didn't seem to want to be photographed with the "masters".
