New York I

From Toronto I flew to New York and Laurie flew to Philadelphia. Both of these involved some business, and we arranged to rendevous in New York City after.

Typical suburban street in a nice area, moderate sized homes, street trees loosing their leaves

I have no idea what this street is called, but it's near Lake Success on Long Island, New York state. I was there to check out some equipment and their experience with it at the Eastern States Bankcard Association, a credit card processing company.

Yellow painted 2 storey home with trees loosing their leaves

I had previously arranged to visit John Lions and his family in New Jersey. John was on sabbatical from UNSW at Bell Labs, and since I was in New York... I had hired a car for the Lake Success journey, so it was "easy" to drive to Madison, New Jersey to visit John and his family. This is the house they were renting. John gave me a tour around Bell Labs, a place of so many amazing discoveries and inventions.

Street with trees and shrubs down both side; the trees loosing their leaves

The street in which the above house is located. Some parts of New Jersey are not attractive, but this area certainly is.

Tall building, with another one in the background.

The United Nations in New York City, from the East River side. The building in the background is the Chrysler Building.

Room with large painting/mosaic on back wall, and circular table in front of it

One of the conference rooms in the UN building. There are a number of these, and alas, the purpose of this one is not specified.

Conference room with straight table on a raised up section at rear with a window letting in the light; rows of seats in front

Another UN conference room, again not identified.

Ivoery carving with jagged mountains, and railway bridge joining them

This is described as an ivory carving of the Yunan (?) railway - a gift from the Chinese government.

Large room with curved rows of seats, a dias at the front and a high ceiling

The UN General Assembly room. The one where Kruschev banged his shoe on the desk.
