We arrived in time for a night tour of the nation's capital. While not helping too much with directions, we did see some impressive structures.
The US Capitol Building, the home of the Congress and Senate. The misty night
adds a certain intrigue.
Our tour included a look inside The Capitol building, and this is looking
up into the dome of the previous shot. This is over the Library of Congress,
the nation's top library.
The Library of Congress. For the sense of scale, there are a few people
visible in the doorway in the middle of the photo.
The front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, more commonly known as The White House,
the home and office of the US President.
The Kennedy Center for the performing arts, which happens to be adjacent to
the Watergate Building, of earlier fame following the breakin by Nixon.
The Jefferson Memorial.
The Lincoln Memorial.
The Lincoln Memorial at dusk, with the large statue of Lincoln visible, and given
scale by the people in front.
The Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool in front.
Seen from the National Mall.
From the same location as above, but turned 90 degrees to the right, is
the back of the White House.
And turning another 90 degrees to the right the Capitol Building's dome is visible
in the distance. The domed building to the left, and the castle tower to
the right are parts of the Smithsonian Institution's famous museums.
