Washington DC, Night and Day

We arrived in time for a night tour of the nation's capital. While not helping too much with directions, we did see some impressive structures.

By Night

Domed building with pillars on a misty night with park in foreground

The US Capitol Building, the home of the Congress and Senate. The misty night adds a certain intrigue.

Looking up into the inside of a dome, with gold paint and other decorations

Our tour included a look inside The Capitol building, and this is looking up into the dome of the previous shot. This is over the Library of Congress, the nation's top library.

Library central area with circular seating and other library objects from that time.

The Library of Congress. For the sense of scale, there are a few people visible in the doorway in the middle of the photo.

White, two storey building with portico and large pillars, and fountain out the front.

The front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, more commonly known as The White House, the home and office of the US President.

Long building with central entrance, flat walls and pillars

The Kennedy Center for the performing arts, which happens to be adjacent to the Watergate Building, of earlier fame following the breakin by Nixon.

Statue of man, on pedestal, in building with large pillars at the front

The Jefferson Memorial.

Large statue of bearded man sitting in large chair

The Lincoln Memorial.

Large building, illuminated with front pillars in shilouette, big statue inside. people around

The Lincoln Memorial at dusk, with the large statue of Lincoln visible, and given scale by the people in front.

By Day

Large white build, with large columns in front, and facing a pool of water

The Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool in front. Seen from the National Mall.

Beyond trees is white building with a circular balcony and pillars

From the same location as above, but turned 90 degrees to the right, is the back of the White House.

Grassy area, with domed building to left, castle tower to right and tall domed building far back

And turning another 90 degrees to the right the Capitol Building's dome is visible in the distance. The domed building to the left, and the castle tower to the right are parts of the Smithsonian Institution's famous museums.
