Elevating a Computer

The Computer Services Unit departed the Electrical Engineering building for the 16th floor of the Library/Law School new building. The elevators in the building were too small to use, so use cranes. Remember this was the time when riots in US universities were damaging buildings, such as computer centres.

Leaving Electrical Engineering

CDC Cyber 72 waiting to go out of 3rd floor electrical engineering

Cabinets in the 3rd floor foyer.

CPU comes out of EE

The basket from the crane is in position to move equipment into the basket.

Another piece comes out, as do the spectators

A piece of the Cyber coming onto the basket. Note the faces in the windows.

Free at last

Going down.

Going down

On the way down to the truck to move up to the new home.

More to leave - all hands on deck; Joe Kinard on right

All hands on deck pushing another cabinet onto the crane's basket, 3rd floor.

Slowly goes with the disk drive

Almost out of the 3rd floor.

Disk going down

Heading down to put the cabinet onto the truck to head to the Library building.

New Home

Destination:door, left hand side, top floor of Library/Law building

The Library/Law School building. Note the "door" on the top floor left.

Hydraulic crane at Library Building - equal largest in the world

A rather large crane to reach the 16th floor.

Waiting expectantly at the library door on the 14th floor

The 16th floor door was opened, and note the bar across the opening.

Part of air conditioner being lifted in

A cabinet nearing the entrance.

Long view of the lifting in operation

The basket looks so small.

Almost in

Well the cabinet of the basket is in.

Inside the new home

View from the top: air conditioner almost in

Coming up.

Correct height

Ready to be hauled in.

View from the top, including airport, plane, Botany Bay and Lucas Heights

The 16th floor door shows a wonderful view to the west, or SW, with an aircraft just taken off. It's not a jet plane - judging from the shape of the tail.

Disk unit leaves the truck

The next cabinet being loaded into the basket, with 2 of the movers avoiding being crushed!

Disk over the Commerce Building

Coming up over what I think was the Commerce building at the time.

Heave Ho, my hearties

In it comes - all hands on deck once again. Not all the same hands, of course.
