May School Holiday Trip To Brisbane

During the May school holidays, Mum, Dad and I drove to Brisbane. Well, Dad did the driving, but you get the idea. It was up and back along the Pacific Highway.

Bridge with lift span crossing broad river

The Martin Bridge at Taree across the Manning River. At least, I think that's what it is. The third photo below suggests otherwise, as it definitely is the Martin Bridge, but we had to have crossed it to reach this point! And the only other big river between Sydney and Taree is the Hunter, and that is definitely not the Pacific Highway bridge over the Hunter at Hexham!

Rowing crew on river - 4 rowers and cox

This 4 is out for some rowing practice on a rather calm river. Though judging by the puddle in the foreground, the Manning River was probably much higher here at Taree a short time ago.

Shot from car looking at bridge mentioned above

We seem to be headed south from Taree, as this photo taken from the approach to the Martin Bridge at Taree has the sun behind us. The black thing in the lower left corner is the steering wheel. Dad's camera (typical of that vintage) has a viewfinder with a somewhat different view than the lens because the viewfinder is to the left and above the lens. Hence, it seens an unobstructed view of the bridge, but the lower down lens sees the steering wheel. SLR style cameras solve that problem, as do digital cameras with a display screen.

Long, low bridge on concrete piers, with a raised section at far end

The bridge linking Forster and Tuncurry. I think that is Forster on the far side of the entrance to Wallis Lake. I have no recollection of why we backtracked to Forster!

Hexagonal pavillion with green walls, red tile roof, adjacent to blue car

This cute rotunda was likely in Tuncurry, with our trusty Holden parked alongside.

Dairy cows in long grass, lake in the distance and hills beyond

A quiet rural scene, possibly at Watson Taylors Lake near Laurieton. We are headed to Port Macquarie for the night, which means we have resumed our northward course. Perhaps we stayed the night in Forster. I do recall staying there once; perhaps this trip, perhaps not.

Run down and slowly disintegrating old farm house

"A Renovators Delight" is how a real estate agent might describe this beauty, complete with "flow through ventilation". Photo appears to have been taken at the same location as the one above.

Heavy overcast sky, breakers and coastline extending south

Not sure where this is. It could be any of a number of beaches/bays along the coast. Much searching of Google images has not turned up anything matching.

Heavy overcast sky, breakers and coastline extending south

Same place as the previous slide, so your guess is as good as mine.

Green fields, partly harvested, leading to hills with cloud covered top

Probably North Brother Mountain, near Laurieton on the NSW north coast. But it might not be, either!

Port Macquarie

Sea shore with brownish water, small waves breaking and some low rock formations in the water

Near Port Macquarie, the scenery changes somewhat, with these rocks in the ocean. They look to be more igneous rocks than the normal sandstone found around Sydney; this is concistent with the volcanic plugs found on the north coast and leading into SE Queensland.

Another beach/ocean scene around Port Macquarie.

View from hill, over nearby homes and bay

Port Macquarie seen from our motel room, including the breakwater, and the main part of town.
