Copenhagen Tour - The Little Mermaid

It was back on the bus and time to travel a little further, though still north east of our hotel. As there's no direct driving route from Amelienborg to the Little Mermaid, we wandered through a few city streets before reaching Copenhagen's icon statue.

The statue dates from 1913 when it was donated to the city by Carl Jacobsen, son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries. She's also been attacked a couple of times, with a beheading and another time the loss of an arm! Vandals are everywhere.

KPLU Viking Jazz:

The Little Mermaid looks somewhat forlorn, but from what I understand of Hans Christian Andersen's story, that is probably appropriate.

KPLU Viking Jazz: Maria at The Little Mermaid [Den Lille Havfrue] statue, north of Amaliehaven

Maria and the mermaid.

KPLU Viking Jazz:

She is popular with children.

KPLU Viking Jazz: The Little Mermaid statue and tourists, plus yacthing and that old crane

And also popular with adults!

Across the water to the right, is a building with a crane atop. It is an old crane used for lifting masts into sailing ships, and is several centuries old.
