Outside Fort Chambly

After exploring the fort for our alloted period, it was time to head back to the bus for the next leg of our journey, which was to take us downstream along the Richelieu River.

Fort Chambly's view over the river on its way to the St. Lawrence

Looking downstream, along what I presume to be the front wall of the Fort. Well, it's where the door is, so I presume it's the front. Do forts HAVE a front door?

A small bay in front of the Fort, safe from river currents

This is the view from about the same location as the photo above, only looking towards the left from there. This is a little bay on the river, and beyond that the town of Chambly.

The memorial to soldiers outside Fort Chambly

The obelisk (just below the red roof) marks the location of Fort Chambly Cemetery. It contains the remains of the soldiers who died in the fort. I think I remember our guide saying that originally they were buried inside the fort.

Another, closer, view of Chambly, with it's regulation church steeple, silver in colour.
