To Kilkenny

After leaving Bandon we hearded towards Cork, although did not get off the highway there, and then turned north east towards Kilkenny.

Looking north towards the Knockmealdown Mountains over typical Irish countryside - well ordered and neat and clean!

At the same location, with happy cows munching away.

Tallow

We stopped for lunch in the town of Tallow.

The main street of Tallow, complete with chef at the ready!

Lismore

We passed through Lismore on the way, and perhaps with a little more planning might have spent some time there too, but alas it wasn't exactly on the plan.

Lismore Castle

The "front gate" to Lismore's Castle, which is a private residence. Although open to tourists, we were past the tourist season, so had to make do with this view.

The view from inside the gate.

Lismore Castle

The back of the castle. Note that there's a river at the base of the castle's wall, and this park area appears to be public land.

Knockmealdown Mountains

The pass through these mountains is called "The Vee", for obvious reasons.

Looking north through The Vee. We noticed many sheep in Ireland, like the one on the right, with splotches of colour on them. No idea what it indicates.

Shrine and chapel at

Another statue of Mary, and a chapel and shelter. This is part of a walking trail, and at times I'll bet this shelter is most appreciated.

From here we continued into Kilkenny, only to discover "there was no room at the inn", as it was Bank Holiday weekend, and apparently many people go away for Saturday night. Oh well, live and learn! Due to much kindness and effort by several B & B owners, we eventually found a bed some miles north of Kilkenny.
