Day 6 - Assorted Rome

Aurelia Gardens Hotel

View out of my room at Aurelia Gardens 'hotel'

The view from my room at the Aurelia Gardens Hotel. What surprised me is the rural nature of this scene, given the relatively short distance from the Vatican. Of course, there's also a valley behind the row of trees in the middle, and there's a major road and rail line and shops hidden in there. But I was still amazed at how compact Rome is. Presumably because most of the occupants live in apartments.

St. Eugene

Peter and I took our chances by taking bus and train into Rome. And we didn't get lost, and even arrived at our intended destination - Piazza del Popolo - without backtracking! And without loss of possessions. The plan was to head to St. Eugene's for adoration of the remains of St. Josemaria, then wander around the area until the tour resumed.

Wandering Around

Peter at Villa Borghese in front of Temple of Aesculapius

Peter and I then walked into the Villa Borghese and spent a pleasant time strolling around and having a light lunch. Peter is standing in front of the Temple of Aesculapius on an island in an ornamental lake.

The tower does not match the rest of the house - Roman ugly, rare but does exist!

Just to prove that even Italians can design ugly buildings! The tower just doesn't belong with the rest of this building. Ugh.
