Through the Ballard Locks

We arrived at the Locks a few minutes early, but then our turn came, and we entered.

Entering the Ballard Locks

Captain's eye view of the Ballard Locks. The large lock is on the right, smaller on the left. We needed the large lock, as we would not fit in the smaller one, which was otherwise unavailable as it was undergoing repairs anyway.

Entering the Ballard Locks

Hmmm, the water on the other side of this lock looks to be a long way down!

Ballard Locks as seen from top deck of

The dam which controls the level of Lakes Union and Washington, and the fish ladder at the Locks. Given the time of year, and how wet March was, there's quite an outflow from the lakes.

Descending in the Ballard Locks

Going down! Note that the railway bridge has opened, as the antennae on our boat were too high to fit under, even with the low tide.

Down in the lock, now about to leave

Open Sesame!

All clear to leave; rail bridge open for our passage

Full speed ahead!
